Tamara Miller is an experimental composer and musician based in Cologne, Germany.
Her music maintains a dynamic flexibility, exploring different fields and interests from a persistent non-conformity in her practice. Focusing primarily on the performative realm of live music performance, her work investigates the corporeal potential of sound in space and through the physicality of the performers, while maintaining a separation from theatricality. This approach gives rise to an intersection with installation or scenography, integrating visual and movement elements – often subtle – and connecting it with other disciplines and artistic collaborations.
Tamara’s music is mainly constructed through organic polyphonies and sound scenes with a focus on the internal construction of sound, often working with noise. In her recent works, she addresses post-humanist or post-anthropocentric themes, pushing a deep reflection on human interaction with the environment and the redefinition of our associations with the environment. This quest is evident in works such as R e m o t o , SURCO, corteza crepitante, ruge, In Passage, and her installation Imagined Garden.
In addition, Tamara maintains a close connection with literature, incorporating texts by other authors or of her own authorship in her compositions, as in At the tip of the tongue (soon to be premiered), Estudio de la especialidad – Y las aves…, and abulia incuriae.
Throughout her career, Tamara has collaborated with renowned ensembles and orchestras in Chile, Germany, and internationally. Notable collaborations include work with Ensemble Garage, Musikfabrik, Sinfonietta Dresden, and Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Chile. She has also participated in festivals such as the Münchner Biennale für Neues Musiktheater, Festival Frau* Musica Nova, MaerzMusik, Musica Festival Strasbourg, Festival Tage für Neue Musik Izmir, and the IMPULS Festival for New Music Saxony-Anhalt.
